Meet the artist, John Michael Ferrari, straight out of Nashville, Tennessee. Some people say that life slows the older you get, but that can’t be said for John Michael Ferrari. After a fifty year hiatus, the songwriter has followed his creative impulses and returned to the guitar with the passion of a lifelong artist. His cultivated abilities as a storyteller are clearly visible in his newest EP, “Soldier’s Prayer”.

The “Soldier’s Prayer” EP is a love letter to classic country.
The EP is filled with the wholesome song and melody of John Michael Ferrari, whose voice lends itself to the wholesome and heartwarming nature of country music.
‘Soldier’s Prayer’
The opening and title track of the EP shares its name and tells the heartbreaking story of a soldier who was killed in action singing to the wife and unborn child he left behind.
Given the melancholic nature of the lyrics, the song has a heartbreaking undertone. However, it’s the kind of heartbreaking that brings about positive emotions of admiration for those who sacrifice their lives to serve their countries.
The vocal climax of the song comes with a yearning belt from John Michael Ferrari as the soldier cries for his wife to recognize him in some way. The power in his voice foreshadows the end of this beautiful ballad and also serves as the highlight.
‘Bring Me Home’
Following that is ‘Bring Me Home’, a song that flirts with the heavy topic of death without being self indulgently trite and serious.
If ‘Soldiers Prayer’ made us appreciate the sacrifices of soldiers, then ‘Bring Me Home’ made us understand the complicated feelings of soldiers that much better. The song starts on a soulful note and has a rustic charm that carries the authenticity of battered emotions that are looking for a place to lay their burdens down.
The harmonious melodies made for an easy listening experience despite the relatively heavy subject matter. This song would be the perfect send-off song that helps you remember all of the golden memories of the person you are sending off.
‘The Son Don’t Lie’
‘The Son Don’t Lie’ is next, which is a call to faith for all listening to remember that God is in your corner.
This track is a guitar heavy musing that reminds the listener how you never know what will happen to you and to keep faith in those moments. The mellow but heavy-hearted strings and drums perfectly mimic the vocalist’s solemn heed.
‘Like a Rock and Roll Band’
The EP ends with ‘Like a Rock and Roll Band’, which is a re recording from a previous album; this track in particular won the Art 4 Peace organization’s title of “Peace Song of the Year” in 2020.
John Michael Ferrari ends the EP on a high note with the final track, ‘Like a Rock n Roll Band’. Whilst the previous tracks were very country music focused with profound messages, this rock ballad is an upbeat feel-good bop.
Not only do the lyrics contain a sincere and hopeful message, but the song will have you dancing a jig along to it. Complete with guitar solo and beautiful riffs, this song is a must-listen that can appeal to many audiences.
