It is coffee made from half-digested coffee fruit defecated (yes, we know) by the luwak animal – also known as the Asian Palm civet (visually akin to a lemur but closer to a mongoose biologically).
That’s right. This coffee is made out of animal poo. However, don’t be startled by the thought of the main ingredient – it tastes better than you think!
Once you arrive at the coffee farm, there is a guide who will show you around and tell you all about the Luwak and what it eats, its nocturnal lifestyle, etc. They will also explain the process of collecting, cleaning, drying, roasting, and grinding the luwak poo to make the coffee.
Thereafter you will be taken to a seated area where you can taste test several traditional Balinese coffees and teas including luwak coffee, vanilla coffee, ginseng coffee, avocado coffee, ginger coffee, mangosteen tea, lemon tea, herbal tea, etc.
