Home Team is a typical easy-to-watch family football movie. You’ve probably seen it before in a different form.
The film is a comedy and borders on slapstick. I’m still not sure if that’s a good thing or not. It’s funny, though. To an extent.

The story is based on the true story of NFL head coach Sean Payton. The irony is that he is played by Kevin James.
I’d hate to be the film reviewer who stereotypes actors based on the roles they’ve played before, but I think the last Kevin James film that I saw was Paul Blart Mall Cop. That or something about zookeeping.
It’s safe to say my expectations were low but I didn’t hate watching it. It’s close to a feel-good movie but not one that you would watch again.

I have to give props to Taylor Lautner because he balanced out Kevin James’ character so well. His acting was average but he did have a likability to him which was hard to find in our protagonist sometimes.
If you’d like to watch something better of the same genre, however, I have to recommend Game Plan starring The Rock and Madison Pettis. That’s more or less the same premise, but executed a lot better.
