Firstly, I have to make the disclaimer that I have been watching Madea films since they began and therefore am biased. Watching a Madea film is attached to nostalgia and makes it difficult to critic from a purely production-based perspective.
With that said, I enjoyed the film because it was an easy-to-watch Madea movie filled with her usual quirks and nonsensical antics.

I’m not sure if this film needed to be made, though. That’s not so much a dig on the film, but I didn’t understand the correlation with the homecoming title and the graduation theme.
Of course, in the end, Tyler Perry cosplays as Beyoncé and does a parody of her iconic film Homecoming. I’m not sure what the relevance was but it was entertaining.

It made me echo the sentiments of some people online who said that Tyler uses Madea to do whatever he wants e.g. parody Beyoncé. Madea has always been the free character who does what she wants to whenever she wants to, as we all know.
With that same lightness, this film doesn’t take itself too seriously. Unlike the Madea movies we used to get filled with drama and tragedy, this was a pretty mainstream, light, and enjoyable enough watch. A
lthough I have to admit to missing the older more emotional films for their artistic value.
If you enjoy the usual Madea humor about drugs, shooting people, and making others the butt of the joke then this will be a decent watch.
